Summerfields is a family-owned & managed agri-tourism business in Hazyview, Mpumalanga, close to the famous Kruger National Park and the magnificent Blyde River Canyon. The owners have integrated farming of macadamia nuts, litchis and passion fruit with the natural beauty of the Sabie River Valley, and created a small boutique lodge, spa and restaurants with the aim of providing the ultimate romantic getaway experience to guests that represents excellent value for money.
Summerfields is more than a convenient springboard to big five game viewing or a daytrip around the Panorama route with its waterfalls, escarpment views and historic sites such as Pilgrims Rest. It is a place to rest, recover and rejuvenate your senses.
Summerfields is a food destination with top Cape Town chefs in attendance – magnificent breakfast spreads, tapas for lazy lunches on the Sabie River, and beautifully crafted fine dinners in a romantic setting in the Kitchen. Service is first world, with internationally trained sommeliers and a speciality wine list.
The spa at Summerfields is unlike any other – adorned with roses, and making use of natural products, such as macadamia oils, avo facials and banana wraps in open-air pavilions where birdsong and the sounds of nature are the background music.
We are temporarily only serving breakfast from 08h00 - 12h00.

From Hazyview, the tour begins as it climbs towards the town of Graskop, and the southernmost point of the Blyde River Canyon. The Panorama Route encompasses some spectacular scenery, with breathtaking views of the Blyde River Canyon, and out over the endless Lowveld beyond. We take guests along the edge of the escarpment, to look out points offering magnificent views, including God’s Window, Wonderview and the Three Rondawels. Along the route we visit the famous Bourke’s Luck Potholes – deep cylindrical cavities formed by thousands of years of water erosion at the confluence of the Blyde and Treur Rivers. Pilgrim’s Rest is well worth a visit. This old mining town was established during the heady days of the gold rush in the late 1800’s, and the whole town is now lovingly preserved as a national monument. At lunchtime the tour will stop back in Graskop so that guests can have lunch at a restaurant, and if time permits, can spend a while browsing in local shops or along the pavements. Street vendors sell an amazing variety of goods – from nuts and fruit to beaded necklaces and carved wooden animals. South of Graskop, where the Sabie River rises, and numerous waterfalls tumble down the mountains, we will visit the beautiful Berlin Falls and Lisbon Falls on the way back to Hazyview.
The Kruger National Park is South Africa’s largest game reserve, and one of the most respected in the world. Our highly experienced field guides are passionate about the bush, and they will share their knowledge of the 147 species of mammals, more than 500 species of birds and 336 species of trees which make this 2 million hectare space their home, with our guests. The recorded presence of man – including bushman rock paintings and archaeological sites, are conserved along with the Park’s natural assets. If time permits, at least one of these will be included in the trip. From an Open Safari Vehicle guests can smell the dust and the sun-warmed grass, listen to the cicadas and the cry of the Fish Eagles, and enjoy the heat of an African day. However we are also able to offer a safari in a closed, air-conditioned vehicle. This is a pleasant and comfortable option especially in very hot weather, for older guests, and for families travelling with young children.
Our Farm Tour starts in our impressive vegetable garden, where you will learn about our farm-to-table philosophy and acquire some useful tips on how to produce your own vegetables. A visit to our inspiring rose garden will follow, before visiting our gin distillery, to see how we craft our Duke Gin from our litchis. After a walk trough our orchards of macadamia and litchi trees, you will stop at our award-wining River Café for a well-deserved lunch.
Our River Café, situated beside the river serves breakfast, lunch and dinner daily.
Breakfast consists of a fresh continental breakfast that includes homemade bread, croissants, fruit and vegetable juices. Hot breakfast options are available too.
Lunch is relaxed Tapas- style with lots of small dishes to choose from.
Our a la carte dinner is available from 18h00 - 22h00 daily.
All vegetables are taken fresh from our own organic nursery, where everything is grown as close to its natural, original form as possible.
