The Debre Libanos Church is a monastery Northwest of Addis Ababa that sits on a terrace between a cliff and the gorge of one of the streams of the Abbay River. The church was founded in the 13th century by Saint Tekle Haymanot. Although none of the original buildings of Debre Libanos survived, current buildings on the grounds include five religious schools, a Church of the Cross, and a church that was built over Saint Haymanot's tomb. The nearby cliffs contain a cave where the saint was said to have lived. The cave contains a spring that's water is considered to be holy and is the object of pilgrimages to the site.
