Stony Point Penguins – A Crowd-Free Encounter with Africa’s Little Comedians

Tucked away in the peaceful coastal town of Betty’s Bay, Stony Point Nature Reserve is home to one of the continent’s most charming residents: the endangered African Penguin, affectionately nicknamed the Jackass Penguin.

Here, visitors can observe these tuxedoed charmers from well-maintained boardwalks as they waddle, preen, dive, and socialize in their natural habitat. But don’t be surprised if your penguin encounter starts early—they often greet guests right in the parking lot or along the path, casually crossing your route like they own the place (which, to be fair, they kind of do).

At T2C, this is hands-down our favourite penguin spot—and not just because of the adorable antics. It’s less crowded than other well-known colonies, offering a quieter, more intimate experience. Plus, the entry fee is refreshingly affordable for both locals and international visitors.

Just remember: we’re the guests here. Give them space, respect their waddles, and in return, enjoy the heart-melting performance they put on—no ticket required.
