Segera Retreat is part of the Wilderness Collection, and is located in a private area on the Laikipia Plateau, just to the north of the Equator. Access is normally by scheduled service flights to Nanyuki (35 minutes from Nairobi Wilson Airport) followed by a 2 hours 4 x 4 vehicle transfer or by charter flight to Segera airstrip (45 minutes from Nairobi Wilson Airport) and a few minutes transfer.
Game activities can include off road game drives, night drives and game walks, camel treks, picnics, bush meals, sundowners, as well as village visits. The area is unfenced, and there is resident game all year round. The Big 5 are seen in the Lewa Downs area, except for rhino. There is numerous plains game, and the elusive wild dog and hyena.
The accommodation comprises 7 villas and a house, with a total guest capacity of 20 persons. The accommodation overlooks savannah, and the mountain range, including a distant view of Mount Kenya. All villas, except Villa Number 5, have this view. Villa 5 stands in the Botanical Garden, where views are of exotic plants and trees and various sculptures. 5 of the villas accommodate 2 persons each and are built on a raised wooden deck and comprise a double bedroom with an en suite walk in shower and bathroom (no tub). There is a large outside wooden deck, and a further deck on a lower level, which comprises an outside lounge, and double hammock and a sunken bath.
A family villa accommodates up to 4 persons, and comprises one double and one twin bedroom, each with an en suite walk in shower and bathroom (no tub), and with an outside area similar to the standard villas.
Villa Segera is very large, and accommodates up to 2 persons. In addition to the features of other villas, it has a double bedroom leading to an observation lounge. It is connected by a bridge to an outside lounge and decking area, which has a pool and a sunken game viewing hide. Villa Segera also has a private garden.
Segera House includes a reception area and a kitchen, and a double and twin bedroom, each with an en suite bathroom (walk in shower). There is a shared lounge. The outside deck area has a sala day bed and a plunge pool. There is also a private garden. Segera House accommodates up to 4 persons. All villas have an electronic safe, hair dryer and coffee and tea making facilities. Lodge facilities include a salt water pool, a gym, a Spa and Wellness Centre with massages and some limited treatments, a shop and an Art Gallery. Power and electricity are 24/7, and there are ports for recharging lap tops, tablets and mobile phones. Any additional charges, such as shop purchases, can be made by cash, or by Visa or MasterCard. Amex is not accepted.

The Greenhouse refracts with light through multiple glass windows and flickers with reflections from the surrounding gardens. Segera's success story in conserving its precious ecosystem and protecting the 50,000 acre wildlife sanctuary is largely built on the collective effort of our Rangers and anti-poaching dog unit. The beautiful bloodhounds attached to the anti-poaching unit bring so much joy to everyone who meets them. Guests get to join in on daily activities, like their daily tracking and training and spa days on Sundays.
Segera is home to impressive collections of contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora—known as the Zeitz Collection. A stroll through the botanical gardens will reveal dramatic wire sculptures, monumental bronze, stone and steel works, land and earth art, outdoor projections and site-specific interventions. In the Stables and Paddock House you can view water-colours, video installations, prints, etchings and paintings from artists who are shaping the modern African art collections of our time.
