Yahuarcocha is a lake located 3 km outside the city of Ibarra surrounded by natural viewpoints and an environment of indigenous crops and land. "Laguna Yahuarcocha", means a lake of blood in the Quechua language ('Yahuar' – blood, 'Cocha' – lake). This is a reference to a battle that took place here in ancient years. A bloody massacre between different indigenous tribes.
Yahuarcocha is used by the people from Ibarra as a park – you will see families enjoying the surroundings, bikers and joggers. From the pier, for a small fee, you can perform various activities such as bike rental, boat rental, and bumper boat rental. In addition, there is a playground for children.
