A haven on the outskirts of one of Tanzania's cultural hubs, Legendary Lodge's setting within a century-old coffee estate tempers its urban surrounds. The estate's original farmhouse serves as the heart of the lodge, where its heritage is celebrated in stately antiques and curios that lend it a lived-in warmth.

Footpaths run across the lawns to ten garden cottages and two family cottages. Within each, fireplaces cast a warm glow come evening, while four-poster beds draped in mosquito netting and clawfoot tubs invite the deep rest that long-haul travel demands.

There are no set times for meals. You can play croquet on the lawns, set up an easel in the garden, or walk, run, or cycle the trails through the estate, and the pool is there for sunny afternoons. Legendary Lodge works in both directions: a place to ease into the rhythm of Tanzania before heading into the wild, and a place to let the wild linger before heading home.
