Formerly known as Hunter Pass, Independence Pass is a mountain pass in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. The pass is situated midway between Twin Lakes and Aspen, and is at an elevation of 12 095 feet. From the scenic overlook near the pass, visitors can get magnificent views of Mount Elbert, as well as the alpine tundra. The informal paths leading to nearby mountain summits make the pass a popular destination for rock climbers, and backcountry skiers take advantage of the slopes during the warmer months.
