About 32km from Quito, Guayllabamba lies in a vibrant oasis of green and arid hills, with vendors lining the main road with stalls laden with outsized avocado´s and exotic fruits. The Zoologico Guayllabamba is a well-designed zoo that strongly emphasizes native fauna, with a good range of animals from the 4 regions of Ecuador: the Amazon Rainforest, the Andes Mountains, the Coastal areas and Galapagos Islands. Puma´s, ocelots, sloths, monkeys, macaws, toucans, giant tortoises and condors can be seen here. The only gesture to the outside world is the presence of four African Lions.
