The Rijksmuseum is a national museum with the sole purpose of preserving arts and history in Amsterdam. The museum building was designed by Pierre Cuypers and opened its doors in 1885.

The building is located in Amsterdam South and is within close proximity to the Concertgebouw, the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, and the Van Gogh Museum. The museum has a collection of 1 million objects of art and history of which only 8,000 are on display.
