Without doubt the Ingapirca Archeological Complex is the biggest and best preserved of Inca Ruins in Ecuador. Ingapirca (Kichwa: Inka Pirka, "Inca wall") is a town in Cañar Province, and deep in the dry sierras swept by the wind of the southern mountain range, 80 kilometers (48 miles) north of Cuenca and at 3180 meters above sea level. Ingapirca offers you an incredible view of the past, coming to know the Cañari and Inca cultures. Marvel at the different styles of construction of the temples as well as the precise solar calculations and aqueduct system.
At the ruins you can buy your entrance ticket which includes a guided tour around the temples and archealogical site, the guide in question (mostly English speaking) will explain you all about this fantastic site and the resistance of Cañari people against Inca invasion.
In addition to enriching yourself with the culture, you will be able to experience the delicious gastronomy of this area, one of the recommendations is to follow the Azogues route where they sell the famous "cascaritas" of pig. This is a typical food of the zone in which this meat is baked in branches of eucalyptus and its leather is toasted. It is accompanied with mote, potatoes and chili.
