Marine Dynamics Whale and Marine Big Five Tours operate around the world-famous Dyer Island ecosystem, where guests may encounter the Marine Big 5: whales, sharks, Cape fur seals, African penguins and dolphins, along with a variety of seabirds.
We operate year-round, offering opportunities to see Southern Right, Humpback and resident Bryde’s whales throughout different seasons. As we work with wild marine wildlife, sightings can never be guaranteed, but our experienced crew and onboard marine biologist ensure an educational and memorable experience.
Your tour also includes a free visit to the African Penguin and Seabird Sanctuary. By choosing Marine Dynamics, you support the conservation and community initiatives of the Dyer Island Conservation Trust and help us continue our mission to Discover and Protect.

Marine Dynamics Whale and Marine Big Five Tour operates around the world-famous Dyer Island where you might be fortunate enough to see the Marine Big 5: Southern Right/Humpback/Bryde's Whales, sharks around the renowned Shark Alley, Cape Fur Seals, the endangered African Penguin and various dolphin species. The area is also home to a variety of seabirds.
We offer our Marine Big 5 tours year-round. Southern Right Whales as well as Humpback Whales typically visit the South African coastline from June to November, though their arrival and departure may vary slightly, as wildlife movements can be unpredictable. Throughout the year, we have the opportunity to observe our resident Bryde's Whales, which can be spotted from January – December. We do work with wild life and nature, so we can’t guarantee any sightings. We also have an on-board marine biologist and experienced crew who promise a life-changing experience.
Pick-up from hotels, guesthouses, backpackers, vacation rentals, AirBnB's and any other points within Hermanus. Please confirm your pickup address and we will let you know if it is possible. Please note that the tour departure time you select is not your pick-up time, but the actual time the boat leaves.
