One of the first buildings in Cape Town the Dutch built a bastion fort to control this important location on the trade route between Europe and the spice-rich East. It forms and interesting part of an incredible history of South Africa that is so well documented and fascinating in its complexities. Furthermore the Castle used to be on the water's edge, but its location now well within in the city, shows how greatly Cape Town has expanded over the years, reclaiming land in its path.
The Castle provides some great views of Table Mountain and the city. Housing some very special art work as well as a war museum, the Caslte can be enjoyed by taking a slow drive past or if you decide to go in, you could easily spend more than hour while taking in a tour and discovering some interesting historical aspects of early Cape Town.
