Located in Lagos, Nigeria, Tafawa Balewa Square was named for Nigeria's Prime Minister Tafawa Balewa, who delivered the independence speech at the venue, at Nigeria’s independence celebration on 1 October 1960. The venue is located on the Lagos Island and has hosted renowned national and international events. Featuring some remarkable monuments, the venue includes statues of gargantuan horses, the Remembrance Arcade and the Independence House which was built in 1963.
