At 1,708 metres wide and 108 metres high at it's highest point, the combined tally of which gives it the title of being one of the world's largest waterfalls. If you thought the Niagra Falls in North America were impressive, the Victoria Falls are roughly twice the height and more than double the width. It certainly stakes its claim to fame and being (or rather having been since the list was updated) one of the Seven Natural World Wonders, it's clearly worth a visit and there's way more to do than simply take in the falls themselves.

Cruise the Zambezi River, at sunset and for dinner is recommended. Take a helicopter flip over the falls, it's not called " The Flight of Angels" for nothing. It's well worth it. A chance to grasp just how incredible the falls really are. Meander the rain forests. Adrenaline activities abound, which of course Devil's Pool is front runner on the Zambian side from Livingstone Island. You will actually swim to the edge of the falls and plunge into the natural rock pool on the ledge. It's one for daredevils. Only conducted when the water levels are low enough, so if this is a must on your activity list then you'd best plan for travel between late August to early January. Even then this depends on rainfall so best to check in advance.

The activities list goes on and on. There's plenty to do and much to see. Make sure you give yourself enough time to do them all. What's an extra day in this incredible location if you can tick off a few more once-in-a-lifetime activities from your bucket list.

A great start or end to your Zambian getaway. Fly in or out of Livingstone Airport. It's a quick transfer across to Zimbabwe and to Botswana using the Kaza Bridge. Include one or more of Zambia's game rich game parks into your holiday. South Luangwa is the birthplace of the African walking safari, Kafue National Park has the highest species list of any park in Zambia and the Lower Zambezi is a great spot for game drives and water safaris.
