This chic, modern city is located just 25km from Kuala Lumpur, and forms the country capital’s administrative counterpart. Putrajaya is an exercise in meticulous city planning – it is slick and well balanced, with a mix of European and Islamic architectural influences, a generous spattering of parks and gardens and a central waterway that bisects its wide avenues. Its main sights are its various opulent ministerial buildings. The Putra Mosque is also exceptionally beautiful, particularly at sunset, when it turns resplendent with reflected light, and is best viewed from the Seri Wawasan Bridge. It is well worth visiting the large food court below the mosque square, which overlooks Putrajaya Lake and offers a wide selection of local and international cuisine.
