Somalisa Camp is set in the heart of Hwange National Park. Hwange is known as the land of the giants for its big elephant herds. Nestled in a stunning location tucked away on an acacia island along the edge of an ancient seasonal flood plain, Somalisa Camp provides views of the open savanna plains across the famous Kennedy Vlei.
Somalisa Camp is an intimate authentic safari camp with just 7 elegantly furnished canvas tents. Each has an en suite bathroom, flush toilet and romantic al fresco bush shower (soon to be converted to running water showers). The décor in the main lounge and dining area echoes of an era extending from the colonial day to the ancient tribes of Africa and tells stories from all corners of this magnificent continent. The main deck includes a small splash pool overlooking the natural pan where herds of game congregate to drink. Here you can relax whilst soaking in the African bush. The use of solar lighting ensures your comfort without interfering with the environment and the area's natural surroundings.
Seven stylishly furnished '"sail" tented suites all have gauze sliding doors, glass wood-burner fireplace for the cold winter nights, and in-room fans for the hot summer days. Each has en suite bathroom facilities with indoor and outdoor showers, as well as a copper slipper-style bathtub.
Activities include guided walks lead by qualified and passionate guides who will share their knowledge and love of the bush with you, 4x4 game drives as well as night drives. Wildlife sightings include elephant, kudu, sable antelope, zebra, wildebeest, gemsbok, the rare and endangered roan antelope, buffalo, giraffe, white rhino, lion, leopard, hyena, and many other wildlife species. After the first rains, the Kennedy Vlei is alive with flamboyant colours from the seasonal wildflowers that emerge - making it one of the prettiest areas in Hwange National Park.
