The Maldives central atolls are the most populous part of the archipelago nation, due to the presence of its capital, Male, which offers a profusion of entertainment, activities and accommodation options. Roughly 140 kilometres south of Male, and in sharp contrast to the bustling capital, are a series of remot, undeveloped islands offering great waves and exquisite coral reefs. This region has become popular for surf and diving trips in recent years, though it is still blissfully uncrowded and peaceful.
