Bordered by the Pakaraima Mountains in the west and the central-east highlands, the Iwokrama Forest lies in the heart of the Guiana Shield. Stretching almost 4000 square kilometres, the Iwokrama Forest is one of the last pristine tropical forests in the world. This vast, protected, wilderness-covered lowland forest is known for its rich biodiversity. It is home to an array of unique fauna and flora, including over 420 fish species, over 500 species of bird and countless varieties of plant species. Visitors can look forward to a wide selection of wonderful activities and attractions including jumping on a boat tour, enjoying a guided walking tour through the unspoilt landscape, spotting the almost-extinct giant anteater, the iconic Guinanan cock-of-the-rock and the scarlet macaw, and viewing the majestic Iwokrama Mountains.
