The Shira Plateau, located on the western side of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, is a high-altitude plateau at an elevation of approximately 3,962 metres. It spans about 13 kilometres and offers scenic views of the surrounding landscape, including the neighbouring Mount Meru. The plateau is a remnant of an ancient volcanic crater and features unique geological formations, such as the Shira Cathedral, a towering rock formation resembling a cathedral. Tourists can enjoy activities like day hikes, trekking routes, and wildlife viewing, with opportunities to see elephants, buffalo, and eland antelope from the neighbouring Amboseli National Park.
