Elsa’s Kopje remains one of the most elegant lodges in Africa, in one of the most spectacular settings. It is one of the best upmarket locations to view rhino in their natural habitat in Kenya. Every cottage has a spectacular view and is uniquely designed and crafted, incorporating the natural features of the rocky hillside. Elsa's Kopje offers ensuite cottages, honeymoon cottages, a family cottage and a private house. Rooms feature standard amenities and come with spacious double or twin beds with elegantly appointed bathrooms. Facilities include an open bar, lounge and dining room with an exceptionally inviting infinity pool overlooking the Meru plains. Elsa’s Kopje is renowned for its delicious cuisine. Guests can eat at their own individual tables and dinner is almost always outside, with candlelit tables laid out under the stars. Private romantic dinners can also be arranged. A wild and semi-arid landscape, dotted with doum palms and traversed by weaving green lines of the 13 life-giving rivers, Meru National Park offers wonderful game watching opportunities, and is one of the best locations to view rhino in their natural habitat.
Nestled into the hillside and overlooking the vast plains of Meru National Park, each of Elsa’s Kopje’s six open-fronted cottages are uniquely designed incorporating the features of the kopje, and enjoying a magnificent view. Each cottage consists of a main bedroom, ensuite bathroom and sitting area/private deck. Five doubles, one twin. Two cottages offer day/extra beds to make triples.
Africa is undeniably romantic, and three Honeymoon Cottages at Elsa's Kopje offer the ultimate in romance and seclusion. Two of the Honeymoon Cottages feature a main double bedroom, ensuite bathroom, a small private deck and gorgeous outdoor bath. The third honeymoon cottage is a large three-leveled luxury suite, with main double bedroom, bathroom, open sitting room and a private deck.
Elsa's Private House is an exclusive accommodation set slightly apart from the rest of the lodge. It is an exclusive retreat for families, with its own garden, infinity pool, sitting room and dining area. The Private House has a double ensuite master bedroom with bath and an outdoor shower, and a twin ensuite bedroom with shower. Private House can fit two extra beds, for children under 16yrs.
Newly built and finished in early 2015, the family cottage consists of an ensuite double bedroom, ensuite twin bedroom, joined by a sitting room and large private decking. The family cottage also offers an outdoor bath. The family cottage can fit two extra beds, suitable for children under 16yrs.

The Elsa’s Kopje guides know their backyard intimately. All the guides are Bronze, Silver and Gold level KPSGA certified. Meru’s rich wildlife diversity includes rare species specific to Northern Kenya, such as Grevy’s zebra, gerenuk, Somali ostrich, reticulated giraffe, as well as an abundance of common game. An 84km2 sanctuary at the heart of the park is home to some 70+ Black and White Rhino. Game drives are included in a Game Package.
Take the time to leave the car behind and enjoy a slower pace. Talk a walk up to the very top of Mughwango Hill, enjoying a 360 degree view from snow-capped Mt Kenya in the west to the vast Meru plains to the east. Bush walks are included in a Game Package.
Alongside a freshly brewed coffee, drink in the sights and sounds of the African bush over a full breakfast, served with a view over the plains or along the Tana river. Bush breakfasts are included in a Game Package.
“Sundowners” are an old tradition after a day of safari: stop and watch the spectacular sunset with, traditionally, a gin and tonic in hand. Sundowners and drinks are included in a Game Package.
Take your rod, afternoon tipple with some canapés and a good book, and settle on the palm lined banks of one of Meru’s many rivers. The fishing is fun, with plentiful catfish, tilapia and barbell. Fishing is included in a Game Package.
Elsa’s Kopje works with closely with the local community, and there are ways that you can get involved. For example, visit the Ura Gate Primary School that is supported by Elsa's Kopje. School visit included in Game Package accommodation but guests are encouraged to donate towards ongoing projects, or purchase school books and supplies.
Elsa's Kopje has one of the most memorable spa's of any lodge, with a breathtaking view from the massage table. Gushing reviews and regular bookings of second and third massages during a stay are testament to this lavish indulgence to the senses. Massages can be booked during your stay and are at an additional cost.
From the cool waters infinity pool perched on the side of the hill, the views are indeed infinite! The pool has bar service. The Private House has its own private swimming pool.
