Set between Fez and Marrakech in the stunning Atlas Mountains of Morocco, Ifrane is an alluring alpine village with echoes of Switzerland in its atmosphere. Created by the French in the 1930s, the town is characterised by ski trails, quaint red-roofed houses, and pristine public gardens. While locals flock here to escape the heat and experience something different, visitors from other parts of the world may enjoy it as a leisure-day ‘holiday from the holiday’. Rich and diverse flora and fauna also add a unique aspect - at the Ifrane National Park, see Golden Jackal, Caracal, and Barbary Macaque, while bird watchers should look out for the endemic Atlas Coal Tit. Make sure to visit the beautiful Source Vitel Waterfalls, Lake Dait Aoua, and the famous Resting Lion Statue, created in honour of the last wild Atlas lion.
