Toronto City Hall, one of the city's distinctive landmarks, first opened in 1965. It was built to replace Old City Hall, built in 1899, and is located at Nathan Phillips Square. It has a strong, modernist structure symbolising the Toronto's progress and growth - fitting for the seat of both municipal government and the corporate head office of Canada's largest city.
Toronto City Hall has two office towers - East Tower and West Tower with 27 and 20 floors respectively. Between the towers is the council chamber, while the remainder of public areas can be found on the first and second floors. This is Toronto's fourth city hall and was designed by Viljo Revell.
A tour of Toronto City Hall is available to visitors.
