Thanks to the famous traditional Scottish ballad that fondly recalls its 'bonnie, bonnie banks', this remarkable loch is Scotland's second most famous after Loch Ness. Loch Lomond is the epitome of Scottish splendour. With its perfect reflection of the surrounding hills, it is not only Britain's largest body of freshwater by surface area but also one of its most beautiful. Visitors can hop aboard boats cruising around the lovely small islands dotted throughout the waters or follow the low road which winds from Glasgow, along the shore of the loch, to the beginning of the magnificent Highlands. Don't miss the gorgeous island of Inchcailloch, where a brief stroll will lead you to the top of the hill providing a stunning panoramic view of the loch below. Equally spectacular, but not quite as wet, is the view from Conic Hill near Balmaha.
