In recent years, a number of game reserves in the Eastern Cape have received recognition in the South African wildlife scene. This development has been inspired by the popularity of the Garden Route which runs between the Western and Eastern Cape, bringing large numbers of people into the area. The well-known Addo Elephant Reserve, home to elephants, buffalo, black rhino and more, was once the only reserve in the Eastern Cape. Over time, Addo has grown and today it provides visitors with excellent game viewing. The addition of numerous, new private reserves now offer a wide range of accommodations and experiences. Moreover the region is malaria-free, which is an added bonus.
