Windhoek's Christus Kirche, a city-centre landmark, reigns over a traffic island. Designed by German architect Gottlieb Redecker, this church boasts Windhoek sandstone walls and an Italian Carrara marble portal. After extensive 1967 renovations, including a 1971 roof re-tiling and stonework cleaning, it earned national monument status in 1974. With a height of 24 metres and space for 1,000 worshippers, it enchants with stained glass, mosaics, and murals. Three German-cast bells chime tradition, and it remains a place of worship in the city's heart.
