Shira Cave Camp occupies a striking position on the Shira Plateau at approximately 3,750 metres, where trekkers establish their own tents across flat, open ground. Accommodation is intentionally simple, supported by basic long-drop toilet facilities and an expansive, rugged setting devoid of permanent structures. Days are centred on guided trekking and gradual acclimatisation along the Machame or Lemosho routes, with distinctive alpine vegetation and occasional wildlife encounters enriching the journey. Evenings bring sweeping views of Kibo Peak and luminous sunsets, offering a rare sense of quiet immersion in Kilimanjaro’s high-altitude wilderness.
