The wonderfully informative Murambi Genocide Memorial Center is located in the Murambi Village in the Nyamagabe district. The memorial centre was established to commemorate those who lost their lives during the genocide against the Tutsi in 1995. The Murambi Genocide Memorial Center is truly unique as it is divided into three major sections; the reception where visitors are taken through the chronology of the history that led to the genocide, a cemetery where more than 50,000 victims of the genocide were laid to rest. Lastly, there is a former technical school that now hosts the preserves bodies of the victims to give visitors an insight into the scale and nature of death that these victims had to experience.
