The La Esperanza Cloud Forest Reserve will astound visitors with its beauty, bounty and a great amount of biodiversity. The variable climate and large altitudinal gradient have helped produce an amazingly heterogeneous set of creatures that live in reserve. Some of these include the jaguar, ocelot, Baird’s tapir, three-wattled bellbird, bare-necked umbrellabird, and the famously elusive resplendent Cock of the Rock. Visitors participating in the Hacienda La Danesa Waterfall and Cloudforest Hike will depart Hacienda La Danesa at 8:00 and arrive at Bucay at 8:30. From there, they will start driving up the mountain for 40 minutes until they arrive at the starting point of the hike. During the 1hour hike, visitors will visit three different waterfalls of different heights where they may jump in for an uplifting experience. For those interested in canyoning down the waterfall, their instructor will provide all security equipment. After visiting the three waterfalls, visitors will visit a local farmer to learn about artisan sugar cane juice and liquor production. They will have a hands-on experience and make their own Sugar Cane and Lime juice. Visitors will then return to Hacienda La Danes for lunch.
