The Bete Golgotha is one of the 11 rock-hewn churches in Lalibela, Ethiopia and can only be accessed via a trench at the Southern-end of the Beta Maryam courtyard. The trench leads to Beta Mikael, and then to Beta Golgotha, and women are not allowed to enter. The Bete Golgotha and the Beta Mikael are the only Lalibela churches that have cruciform pillars and relief carved crosses. The church is famous for its early examples of Ethiopian Christian art and includes life-size depictions of the 12 Apostles which are carved into the wall's niches.
