Based in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, the Karkloof Canopy Tour has been built in a spectacular valley of the Karkloof Forest Reserve. A short scenic 4×4 drive to the top of the Karkloof valley, where participants reach their first launch platform. All groups are escorted through the forest canopy by a lead guide and a safety guide to ensure participants safely slide from tree to tree. The platforms are built high up in the forest canopy and all offer different views of the surrounding forest, a magnificent 20-metre waterfall, clear sparkling forest stream and across the expansive Karkloof valley far below. The Karkloof Canopy Tour consists of 12 platforms and 10 zip-line slides, the longest of which is 200 metres.

Karkloof Canopy Tour has linked with AfricanFig to bring you a truly unique transformational experience. Our frustration with traditional teambuilding is that, while everyone has a lot of fun, there is often no real change or shift in our lives and teams when we get back to the workplace. Together with African Fig, we have developed a facilitated experience that encourages personal and corporate growth through taking a look at fear and how our fears influence every part of our lives. If fear holds us back as individuals, then how much is it holding us back as teams and the potential our teams have to achieve great things?
The combination of the Fear session with the canopy tour is ideal as it allows for learning through experience. Before the canopy tour many people express that they are afraid and some even say they don’t want to do the tour and yet when they get back from the tour they’ve all loved the experience. Many people tell us that it’s one of the best experiences of their lives. This is a massive lesson as it forces us to ask what else we are not doing in our personal and professional lives because we’re afraid and yet, if we did them, they might just be some of the most incredible things we’ve ever done. A look at fear and a canopy tour will have your team looking at themselves and each other in a new way and will hopefully begin the process of unlocking the potential within all of us.
The Mthunzi Deck was launched in February 2018, with the aim of extending our Coffee Shop, but more specifically to provide a teambuilding and/or party venue. The Deck can seat upto approximately 40 people, but can also be an intimate venue for a smaller group. It is situated at the edge of our garden on the fringe of the Karkloof Forest, in the shade overlooking a small river. We have hosted corporate functions and meetings, birthday parties, marriage proposals and engagements.
Our coffee shop is situated in a lovely garden surrounded by the Karkloof Forest. Guests are welcome to sit inside, on the veranda or in the garden. We serve toasted sandwiches, muffins, snacks and an assortment of drinks from coffees/teas, hot chocolate, beers, ciders, wines, health drinks and soft drinks. Come enjoy a refreshment in the tranquillity of our natural setting!
For the little ones too young to do the Canopy Tour, we offer a jungle gym play area with swings, a slide and a "Tarzan" climbing platform. (The Canopy Tour is for children aged from 6 years.)
