Under the harsh heat of the Northern Territory’s dry season, Leliyn—also known as Edith Falls—emerges as a chain of cool, shimmering pools in the heart of Nitmiluk National Park, around 60 kilometres north of Katherine. Fed by the Edith River, the water cascades over sandstone ledges framed by rugged cliffs and open woodland. Designated swimming areas invite visitors to wade into calm, refreshing depths, while walking trails lead along the river to elevated lookouts with views of the surrounding escarpment. Each pool has its own character, from shallow edges to deeper sections favoured by confident swimmers. Wildlife is part of the experience, with native birds and reptiles frequently spotted near the tracks. Camping and picnic facilities are available near the main pool, with amenities including shaded areas, barbeques, and access to walking routes.
