Toshogu Shrine is located in a picturesque forest in Nikko, Japan, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The shrine is the final resting place of Tokugawa Ieyasu, who was the founder of the Tokugawa Shogunate that ruled Japan for over 250 years. It was initially a simple mausoleum, but was enlarged by Ieyasu's grandson in the 1600s, into the impressive and intricately adorned complex that visitors can see today. Wood carvings and plenty of gold leaf decorate the buildings in the most unique way.
