The awe-inspiring Wadi Mujib river canyon lies roughly 90 kilometres south of Amman in the southern part of Jordan Valley. This is a dramatic landscape of plunging rocky gorges, bright turquoise pools, spectacular waterfalls, and stunning wild spaces. Untamed bushy desert and a UNESCO-listed biosphere surrounds the canyon, home to more than 300 plant species and ten carnivore species including numerous rare animals such as wild cats, goats, and more. The canyon area is also inhabited by a large number of bird species. The river flows year-round, and the wonderful Hammamat Ma'in hot springs beckon to be enjoyed. Visitors can take a guided five-day hike or choose from other walks, and photographers will delight in the spectacular ever-changing colours of the rock, plains and waters.
