Naas and Alida Mouton are your friendly hosts at Rooiduin Farm. The red sand dunes are a prominent feature on the farm, which is reflected in its name: "Rooiduin", the Afrikaans for "red dune". Naas saw the opportunity to offer sandboarding when his green "JoJo" watertank was not longer working as a suitable water storage container and instead of disposing of it he cut it up and made his own unique sandboards. They have since purchased "proper" sandboards, but return visitors still prefer the original ones!
Sandboarding on the 500-800 metre dunes at Rooiduin is a must do. The dunes are ridable all year and are ideal for beginners to sandboarders of intermediate proficiency. You have not experienced all the Kalahari has to offer if you have not felt the thrill of taking a dune board down a red sandy slope.
