Vat Phou is a Buddist temple located in Muang Champassak, Laos. The temple is situated on a hillside which provides spectacular views. Wat Phu is considered to be one of the oldest archaeological sites in Laos. The temple complex was built with bricks, sandstone and laterite during the early stages of the 11th century and additional structures and reconstructions followed in the 12th and 13th centuries. While exploring the temple complex ruins, visitors can view carvings such as the Hindu god of war and a three-headed elephant. Visitors will be able to see an altar featuring four large Buddha images, as well as smaller ones scattered around the ruins. The complex is open to visitors daily from 08:00 to 17:30.
