Located in northwestern Cambodia, sharing a border with Thailand, the province of Battambang offers a wide range of sights and attractions, from natural reserves to astonishing ancient temples. The capital of the province, also called Battambang, is home to an interesting museum showcasing Angkorian relics and the nearby Kamping Puoy Lake, a popular recreational area known for its giant lotus flowers. From the capital, most visitors head to the 11th-century mountaintop ruins of Phnom Banan, one of the best preserved Khmer temples in the region, and the charming Wat Kor Village, home to a spired temple and attractively located on the Sangker River. Finally, Phnom Kdoung is an unspoilt natural region and fast-growing ecotourism destination, and history enthusiasts will want to check out Phnom Sampeau’s infamous ‘killing caves’.
