Dzanga Bai, meaning 'the village of elephants' is a large mineral rich clearing in the middle of the rain forest where forest elephants gather in large numbers to indulge in drinking the mineral rich waters that bubble up in places in the Bai. This Bai is a focus for all the animals and birds that live in this huge forest reserve.

A drive from the lodge, followed by walking along game trails down to the Bai. Spend time on an elevated platform which provides amazing views over the Bai. Highlights here would include herds of forest elephants bathing in the different coloured mud created by the various minerals, forest buffalo, various primate species such as the Western Lowland Gorilla, and an array of beautiful birds particularly the flocks of African grey parrots. The largest antelope of the jungle, the rare bongo is also found here, with April being the best month for viewing them.
