Zipaquira is located in north-central Colombia, about 46 kilometres northeast of Bogota. While the main attraction of this city is the underground Catedral de Sal (Salt Cathedral) - built in the old Salt Mine building complex just outside of town - Zipaquira offers visitors some other interesting cultural attractions in addition to this magnificent subterranean temple, which is best explored via guided tour. Be sure to check out the pedestrian-friendly Gonzales Forero Square (in the old city centre), which is flanked by colonial-style national monuments like the City Hall and the beautiful Catedral Diocesana (which was constructed between 1760 and 1870). Finally, after soaking up its architectural wonders, travellers can look forward to sampling Zipaquira’s strong selection of restaurants and enjoying its vibrant nightlife scene.
