One authentic mobile tented camp, but in two locations, Lemala Ndutu & Lemala Mara moves north and south with the seasons to ensure guests enjoy ringside seats to the spectacle of the magnificent wildebeest migration year-round. Both are set up in sublime locations offering a high-quality safari experience with excellent guiding.
Lemala Ndutu Tented Camp is in the Ndutu region of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area near the border of the Southern Serengeti. This area is classic savannah, characterized by flat grassy plains, and our camp is in one of the finest locations in Ndutu to see the migration between December and March. Tens of thousands of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle usually arrive in December to graze on the newly-watered, highly nutritious short grass plains, and then by February, the main calving season takes place. Predators – especially the big cats – are highly concentrated in the Ndutu area in these months. With 9 tents, Lemala Ndutu is perched on the edge of a permanent marsh and acts as the ultimate amphitheatre to capture the boundless drama that accompanies the migration

A balloon safari offers an opportunity to see the wildlife areas from a unique perspective. Take in the wilderness below as you silently float over the vast plains (in whichever direction the wind takes you). Follow a large herd of wildebeest, see a lion stalk its prey or just marvel at the magnificent scenery before touching down for a bush breakfast like no other. If you only take one balloon flight in your life, this is the place to do it.
No safari is complete without experiencing a traditional outdoor, open-air lunch or dinner. Relax under the natural canopy of an acacia tree, while your personal butler serves up a feast. Nothing is quite so essentially safari as this. White linen, fine bone china and crystal glassware create a real "Out of Africa" experience - both daytime and night.
Sundowners are more than just a happy hour. They are a very cherished African tradition and form an integral part of your safari experience. It is a time to relax, reminisce the day gone by, enjoy a cocktail or glass of wine around the camp fire with fellow travellers, and watch as the sun goes down over the Serengeti plains.
Tanzania has great appeal for families. Seeing animals is very exciting for children, and nothing can prepare a parent for the delight of watching their child’s reaction when they catch sight of a lion, giraffe or elephant for the very first time. Lemala Cubs offers our special guests under the age of 12, a range of wonderful opportunities to experience and enjoy the magic of the African bush. These activities are fun, educational and interesting, showing future generations the need for conservation of Africa’s wildlife, and keep kids well entertained while mum and dad relax.
A cultural excursion to the Village of Mto wa Mbu you will spend a few hours discovering the village using the most favored method of transport in the area. You will visit the rice fields, Makonde carvers, tinga tinga painters, if possible a visit to the shores of Lake Manyara, finishing in the banana plantations for a local lunch.
An authentic glimpse into the distinctive Maasai culture is a must whilst in Tanzania. Preservation of their proud traditions has set the Maasai apart from other indigenous groups in Tanzania, and embodies a side of Africa with which few outsiders can contact. We offer guests a memorable opportunity to interactively experience the Maasai way of life through an excursion to a traditional boma where guests will be able to participate in a variety of unique cultural activities, and encouraged to delve as deep into the experience as possible!
No safari is complete without experiencing a traditional bush lunch. Relax under the natural canopy of an acacia tree, whilst your personal butler serves up a feast. Nothing is quite so essentially safari as this. Tailored service with cold drinks and your private chef preparing delicious meals surrounded by breath-taking surroundings in total privacy totally completes this Out of Africa experience. After enjoying your morning game drive, your guide will bring you to your private location within the Ngorongoro Crater where our team awaits to seat you.
Our separate spacious dining tent allows guests to enjoy their meals whilst enjoying uninterrupted views of the Serengeti plains stretched out in-front of them. Meals are communal, allowing everyone to catch up on the days events, meet new friends and share experiences, all whilst being attended to by our dedicated team. Meals are varied to suit all tastes, but if you have any dietary requirements let the camp know and the chefs will whip up some specials.
Nothing beats meals taken outside under star lit skies. Weather permitting, dining outside in the shade for lunch or under the stars for dinner whilst listening to the African sounds is something quiet spectacular and one not to be missed.
