Boasting a name that means tranquil, Tengile River Lodge features nine delicate floating suites that looks out over the river from the dappled shelter of a cool forest. Following the curve of the river bank, each area in the lodge offers magnificent river views.
Raised above ground level, the spacious suites offers sunken lounges, elegant bedrooms and bathrooms that open out onto the forest, creating private spaces in the open air. Our Wellness Area includes a treatment room for massages and a gym for Guests to enjoy between Game Drives.

Our guides read the bush in real time. Tracks in the sand, alarm calls from the trees, birds gathering to circle above a kill. Every detail adds context to the story unfolding around you. Game drives are conducted twice a day (early morning, and late afternoon/ evening) in open 4-wheel drive safari vehicles. The 4-wheel drive safari vehicles enable the rangers to leave the road and provide guests with close up game viewing and fantastic photographic opportunities.

Weather-dependent, walks are conducted during the winter months when visibility is enhanced. It’s also more pleasant to move through dry bushveld, as you learn how to track and experience close encounters with smaller game without them being aware of your presence.
There are so many small and fascinating treasures to be found and studied when you are closer to the ground than inside a vehicle. Many tiny creatures and plants that go unseen during drives are waiting to be discovered on the soil and grasses.
The Boma is a central part of the evening experience at Tengile, combining refined cuisine with the atmosphere of the African bush. Menus change daily and blend modern culinary techniques with local South African flavours, using fresh and seasonal ingredients.
A well-stocked bar and mixologists provide craft cocktails, local gins, curated premium wines, while the kitchen caters to a wide range of dietary preferences and requirements.

Served in a variety of settings from the lodge’s river-facing dining areas and outdoor decks to traditional firelit bomas, or privately on the deck of your suite, creating dining experiences that are both relaxed and quietly memorable.
