The Swakopmund Lighthouse is a historic landmark that has guided seafarers since 1902. It stands on a hill near the beach, away from the rough surf. It was originally 11.5 m high but was raised to 28 m in 1910. The lighthouse has a distinctive red-and-white pattern and a rotating circle of lenses that produce a blinking signal. The lighthouse also has a radio beacon that sends additional positioning signals to the ships. The lighthouse is still in operation and houses a restaurant at its base.
