Melrose House is located in central Pretoria. The house was built in 1886 by a South African business man, and during the Second Boer War, it was taken over by the British forces to be their headquarters. Later in 1902, the Treaty of Vereeniging was signed there, ending the war. The house is now a museum and illustrates the transition from Victorian to Edwardian architecture and interiors. Guests to the museum are able to explore the property by themselves or listen to an informative audio guide.
