Situated north of Chiapa de Corzo in Mexico's southern state of Chiapas is the deep, natural Sumidero Canyon. Set in the Sumidero Canyon National Park, the interior of the canyon features 30 rapids, beaches, five waterfalls, two freshwater springs, and a cofferdam. The canyon has impressive vertical walls reaching high as 1,000m with the Grijalva River running through it. Well-known caves and waterfalls include Cave of Colors, Cave of Silence, and Arbol de Navidad which looks like a Christmas Tree during the rainy season.
