Set in the low foothills of the Piketberg Mountains, just over an hour’s drive from Cape Town and only 30 minutes from the beautiful West Coast region, the historic town of Piketberg boasts a rich heritage, fertile, breathtaking landscapes, and an abundance of excellent wine estates. Once inhabited by Khoikhoi and San people, then a colonial town and recently a flourishing farming region, the town offers many historic attractions. Travellers can wonder at ancient rock paintings, or visit the neo-Gothic Dutch Reformed Church to see beautiful, coloured window patterns and elaborate interiors. Thrill seekers can go paragliding from Piketberg Mountain, while other outdoor activities on offer include 4x4 routes, mountain biking, canoeing, bird-watching and fishing. Make sure to try some of the delicious Rooibos tea and sweet, tasty apples, pears, peaches and oranges farmed here.
