Chiang Saen is a district located in the northern part of the Chiang Rai Province, south of the Golden Triangle. Situated along the Mekong River, the district is known as "A sleepy river town". The district is home to the world's tallest flag pole standing at 189 meters tall. On the same site as the pole, there is a museum and learning center open to the public. Various original buildings, temples, and statues remain in Chaing Saen that date back to the seventh century. There are regular Saturday and Sunday markets that take place to the north of the district where various souvenirs, jewelry, clothing, and foods are on sale.
