Takamatsu is the capital city of the Kagawa Prefecture on the Japanese island of Shikoku, sandwiched between the island-studded Seto Inland Sea and the Sanuki Mountain Range. This vibrant port city rests on the northern coastline of the island and features a number of interesting historical sites. The city’s star attraction is undoubtedly the Ritsurin Garden. This impressive 750 000-square-kilometre Japanese-style garden took more than 100 years to construct and offers magnificent views of Mount Shiun in the distance. Other not-to-be-missed attractions include the Honen-ji Temple, the Isamu Noguchi Garden Museum, and Shikoku Mura, an open-air museum of over twenty historical buildings dating from the Edo period through to the Taisho period.
