The impressive Arenal Volcano is one of the seven wonders of Costa Rica with its 5,437 ft above the verdant rainforest and Lake Arenal and even though it has been resting since 2010, it hasn´t lost its charm that amaze every visitor with its unforgettable scenic beauty.

Around this national park, the Trekking activity is becoming quite popular among those adventure travelers who desire to face extreme challenges putting their own physical strength on limits to overcome them.

One of the most security places to experience this thrilling activity is the Arenal 1968 Park, a private reserve of 284 hectares, which is right next to the national park and offers amazing trails going through jungles on recovery process and old lava fields; here you will admire landscapes like never you seen before.

At the arranged time, attentive personnel will be waiting for you at the lobby of your selected hotel in a comfortable air conditioning Van/Bus to lead to private reserve. During the short transfer (around 20 minutes), the guide will talk briefly about the volcano and its famous eruption of 1968, just the reason of why the private park got its name.

When arriving, the naturalistic guide will share with you important information about eruptions that buried much of the surrounding jungle during the dramatic eruptions of 1968, as well as useful recommendation that will allow you to discover more secrets of the wildlife that hides among the forested areas.

Along the 3 hours trek through “Trail Forest 1968”, you will enjoy different scenarios like open lands, “Los Patos” lagoon and of course old lava fields. This is the most challenging trail in the park, for a total distance of 7km.

There is lookout point at the top of the trail and if you’re lucky, the volcano won’t be covered by clouds and you’ll have one of the best views of Arenal Volcano in the entire area!

These views will give you a better panorama of the old lava flows, which came down from the slope of the volcano and changed dramatically the topography of the area.
