The Borobudur Temple is a 9th-century Mahayana Buddhist Temple located not too far from Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The site features nine stacked platforms, six of which are square and three circular, which follow a Javanese Buddhist style of architecture. Pilgrims journey to the temple each year for Vesak Day, Buddha's birthday. This entails pilgrims ascending from the base of the temple through the three levels symbolic of Buddhist cosmology to the top.
