The Rockefeller Center is a huge complex consisting of 19 high-rise commercial buildings in midtown Manhattan. The center was declared a National Historic Landmark 1987 and is named after John D Rockefeller who was the sole financier of the project. A remarkable collection of art deco motifs, mural paintings, mosaics, metalwork, and sculptures which include the famous Atlas and Prometheus sculptures are integrated with the architecture. The center is also famous for its annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony which is held late November or early December each year. The centre houses a massive variety of shops of every kind and description along with a host of lifestyle services, ATMs, dining and takeaway outlets, and entertainment options along with uniquely themed plant installations and a host of other attractions which include an observation deck on the 70th floor from where breathtaking views of the city can be taken in.
