The Zege Peninsula is 600km northwest from the capital, Addis Ababa and located on the southern shore of Lake Tana, the largest lake in Ethiopia and the source of the Blue Nile. The lake has 37 islands of which 30 of them hosts ancient monasteries with beautiful murals, ancient texts and a rich spiritual life. The peninsula is also home to Ura Kidane Mihret church and is said to be one of the most beautiful in the region.
